Christian boko-haram?
In a country bombarded by corruption, prolonged strike actions, injustice, political tension, plane crashes (or hand of God incidents as we are told), massive unemployment, boko-haram bombings and general insecurity, it is nt suprising that "religion has become the opium of d masses.
I have in recent times watched with keen interest as my fellow country men take to religion as their only true hope. They have built solid faith in the Men of God(Pastors, Imams, Prophets and so on). It is therefore not suprising, when I see people coming to the defence of their spriritual leaders with great zeal whenever it seems as though their names are being dragged in the mud. Of cos, they have to protect their last hope of a promising life ahead. The christians are more involved in this. We christians, have now become petulant and attack with great bile anyone who points out anything negative about our men of God. We have now become even as violent in our verbal attacks as boko haram are in their bombings.
Yes, God has called this people to be his voice on earth, he has called them to be shepherds of his flock, But I must say that some of these people have joined the league of God's chosen because of d integrity and reverence associated with the calling, and then take advantage of their flock to the best of their selfish interests.
They practise things that were not associated with Christainity and Christendom, yet they have loyal dogs who will come to their rescue and attack any perceived threat. Many christians today have become religious bigots who are blinded by their belief in their spiritual leaders, who they have sub-consciously made into demi-gods.
Some of us quote the the bible verse saying, "Touch not my annointed and do my prophets no harm" without even knowing the bible passage being referred to is contained in 1Chronicles 16:22. They seem oblivious of the that the same bible in the book of Matthew chapter 24 verse 11 says "and many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many". Verse 24 of that same chapter 24 even goes further to say "...and they shall shew great signs and wonders; DdDDddin so much that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect"
That you met with a pastor and experienced some phantasmagoria dosent automatically make him truely "God's anointed".
It is appalling that even when some see cases of a Reverend, like we used to have who used to flog his members and at some point got to d height of setting them ablaze for their sins. Yet he had followers call him 'King' and when he was to be brought to book they quoted "touch not God's anointed".
Nowadays, we see our men of God accumulating more wealth than most big business men, some romance the government for "prayer contracts", yet he is seen as "divine". They run large firms with members tithe and offerings, yet in most cases, most of these tithe-paying members cannot even afford to patronize them.
They have abandoned d gospel of Christ return, and they only preach prosperity messages. Yes our God isn't poor, he blesses his own. Yet, as we celebrate our Pastors as dey buy private jets, we must not forget that the only donkey God's own Son rode was borrowed. Oh! it was even jst a COLT!.
Or do we need to be reminded of the case of Elisha who after naaman's healing refused to accept his gifts?, yet our pastors today have become multi-billionaires from gifts in appreciation of their miracles.
I have never come across anywhere in my bible where JESUS or any prophet who by himself, blew his trumpet to announce a miracle God used him to perform. Today some of our churches own media houses and buy air time just for the sole purpose of advertising miracles.
Do we even talk about d bizzare ways of collecting offerings by preachers on the streets and even inside churches?. I myself, have attended a service where there were so many types of offerings collected including "generator-fuel offering" haba!!!. Or isn't it funny to see someone attach a large offering box to the back of his car while driving about preaching God's word?.
The painful part is that when people summon courage to come out to confess their sins of adultery with a so called man of God so as to raise awareness and prevent more people from falling into such traps, u see bigotted christians attacking the person with so much bile. When people enlighten us on these issues on blogs and so on, you see people become so malevolent against the person, ready to bomb the person if only they can see the person physically. Oh what Christian boko-harams we have today. The case of Ese-Walter and d COZA saga got my attention. Yes we shouldn't b quick to judge but in the case whereby other people corroborated the story like Miss Franka E. who even went ahead to dare the pastor to denial. Yet some people come online and talk bollocks. I do wonder sometimes if some of these reactions come from hypnotized persons or maybe persons who due to sufferings in the country have had serious alterations in their brain cells.
This piece is NOT written as a call to stone our Men of God, because no one is perfect even though they should be living guides to how to live a holy life. Rather, it is a call to us to open our heart, mind, and eyes to whatever or whoever we say we believe in. This blind followership is making us nothing but religious fanatics.
The sons of Eli were also prophets. We should put our trust, hope and belief in the Almighty God and not putting it all on the Man of God and all the charade. Subconsciously, we are making them into our gods.
Revere God and not his servants!!!
P.S: This is my first write-up so pardon my unproffesionalism. All kinds of criticisms are also welcome and anticipated. Thank you and God bless us all.
